As as a member of the Board of Advocates for EMS, I am
acutely concerned with the need for a stronger EMS presence on Capitol Hill. If we are to provide the best possible EMS care, we need help from our Senators and Representatives. They will not understand our issues, however, unless we engage in the existing legislative process.
>
Having a standing legislative liasion through Advocates is
critically important, because Advocates is a broad based
coaltion of EMS stakeholders dedicated to improving all EMS, whether private or public, fire or private, transport or initial responder.
>
We especially need to encourage our legislators to join the EMS Caucus. Please encourage your members to visit the website below and click on the "Take Action"
button. Please also encourage them to join Advocates!

Attached please find the Advocates October Legislative
Update. Congress is about to leave town passing only 3
appropriations bills funding federal agencies for 2009, one of which is the Department of Homeland Security. I have attached a chart that shows the final first responder program funding levels and first responder-related report language is included in the Legislative Update.
